Gloucester Stage Company Theater

Gloucester, MA

The improved Gorton Theater was designed as a quality performance venue that matches the world-class stature of the renowned Gloucester Theater Festival, with spaces that are bright, inviting, and visually connected to Gloucester Harbor and the local setting. Improvements of the Theater’s front and back of house and technical features—in terms of intimacy, operation, artistic flexibility, full accessibility, and staff/patron safety—greatly enhance the overall quality of the Summer Festival productions. A new and dedicated Black Box theater, enhanced and inspiring Main Stage space, and added break out spaces, allow educational programs to flourish where young students can grow self confidence through the art of acting, directing, writing and technical support. Through expansion of the lobby/gallery/reception space from the street to the water side of the Gorton Building, perforation of these spaces with new and enlarged windows for views of water and neighborhood, and addition of concession and catering capabilities, the space is designed not only to be exciting to patrons of the theater at intermission, but as a destination for pre- and post-production events, a gathering place for GSC community events, and a source of potential rental revenue for a broader assortment of uses.
