Gloucester Stage Company Theater

Gloucester, MA

The goal for the Gorton Building renovation is to establish a quality performance venue that matches the world-class stature of the beloved and renowned Gloucester Theater Festival, including:

Creation of a High Functioning and Dignified Performing Arts Venue that supports the core mission of the GSC

Through significant improvements of the Theater, its front and back of house and technical features --in terms of intimacy, operation, artistic flexibility, full accessibility, and staff/patron safety-- the overall quality of the Summer Festival productions will be greatly enhanced, and potentials for broader programming and rental opportunities within the Main Stage will be significantly expanded.

Expansion of Facilities for the Youth Performing Arts Workshops to serve the students of the Gloucester Schools and broader Cape Ann community:

Through provision of a new and dedicated Black Box theater, enhanced and inspiring Main Stage space, and added break out spaces, an educational program where young students grow self confidence through the art of acting, directing, writing and technical support, will be allowed to flourish and grow alongside and supported by a professional theater community.

Enhancement and Expansion of Social and Public Event Spaces that are bright, inviting, and visually connected to the beauty of Gloucester Harbor and the local setting:

Through expansion of the lobby/gallery/reception space from the street to the water side of the Gorton Building, perforation of these spaces with new and enlarged windows for views of water and neighborhood, and addition of concession and catering capabilities, the environment will not only be exciting to patrons of the theater at intermission, but will become a destination for pre- and post-production events, a gathering place for GSC community events, and a source of potential rental revenue for a broader assortment of uses, including weddings, conferences, and third party producers.
