Stoneleigh-Burnham School Masterplan

Greenfield, MA

A master plan and feasibility study was produced to assist the school in determining the ideal location and organization of a new 450-seat theater, a new primary school wing, an extension to the gymnasium, and an extension to the visual arts facilities. The resulting plan reorganized selected parking lots and service roads, and identified key sites for buildings that would complement and complete the elegant and historic central campus quadrangle, while serving the specific programmatic needs of each individual facility. The proposed construction included freestanding buildings that complete the definition of campus spaces, and additions that will conceal edifices incongruous with the unified architectural theme of the school. This enhancement in the organization of the school's facilities will bring about clearer and more natural interconnections between the parts of the school, while establishing an inspiring core quadrangle for both casual daily interaction and formal gatherings of the entire school during key community events.
